CARE for Pre-K
Research and surveys in India highlight several challenges faced by teachers and students. Key findings include:

-
Teacher Overload: A significant 65% of teachers in India are burdened with non-teaching tasks, contributing to burnout and stress, as indicated by the 2021 National Achievement Survey (NAS). Many schools also face a high teacher-student ratio (PTR), with an average of 28:1, making it difficult for teachers to address individual student needs, leading to high attrition and disruptions in classrooms.
-
Workload Impact: A study of 144 Anganwadi Workers (AWW) in Akola (2023) revealed that 71% of AWWs were frustrated with their workload, 74% reported negative mental health impacts, and 65% felt drained after work.
-
Student Mental Health: A survey by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) found that 12-13% of students in India face psychological, emotional, and behavioral issues.

The program focuses on improving wellbeing of Anganwadi Workers, enhancing their classroom management skills, and fostering a positive learning environment for children in Anganwadi Centers. Anganwadi workers learn and practices these skills through in-person training sessions and online mentoring for individual/personalized support/guidance, over a period of 3 years.
